Why Sparkless Ignition Is the Future of Combustion Safety:

In harsh environments, where snow, rain, wind, or heat can bring operations to a halt, spark ignition systems can often become a liability. They become shorted, wear down, or fail due to the harsh environment. SureFire saw this liability and engineered a more reliable ignition system.

The Problem with Spark Ignition

Traditional ignition relies on a high voltage coil to generate a spark across an apparatus to ignite fuel gas. Moisture, corrosion, vibration, standard wear and tear, and poor grounding can often cause ignition failure. Every ignition issue means downtime, venting of raw natural gas, loss of production and unnecessary field visits.

The Future – Sparkless Ignition

SureFire’s sparkless ignition design eliminates many of the susceptibility points associated with spark ignition:

  • Doesn’t require a coil
  • There isn’t a gap to maintain to ensure the spark can occur
  • Freezing and moisture rich environments don’t cause shorts
  • Burner designs limit the susceptibility to application-based wear and tear
  • Reduces maintenance and service calls out

 

The sparkless, hot surface igniters are integrated in a variety layouts based on the application. Piloted and pilotless FT Ignition Units utilize the hot surface igniter to create combustion in various firetube applications such as:

  • Heater Treaters
  • Separators
  • Dehydrators
  • Tanks
  • Line Heaters

 

This ignition technology is also integrated with flare and combustor applications with our patented FTL-F ignition units. The hot surface igniter is utilized in our flame front generation, providing reliable and durable ignition in harsh conditions.
